There are many problems facing the United States. Most have to be dealt with the president. Money as they saying does not grow on trees. The current issue of the president, George Bush, is where to spend money and how much should be spent. With so much going on it is hard to not stress out about how them money is to be spent. An obstacle the president is dealing with is the war and hurricane Katrina. The two are huge issues going on at this current time. Both need an exuberant amount of money to aid them. Before the hurricane Katrina hit bush was dealing with enough spending problems in the war in Iraq, and then the hurricane strikes. Other obstacles the president has to deal with is the $700 billion dollars spent on drug prescription plans this yea and $286 billion on highway maintenance. High Bills like this add on to the cost of the nations struggle. Currently Katrina is costing the nation the most problems. The hurricane has put people out of there homes and cut of all of there resources. There are people walking around without money, clothing, food, and shelter. The towns will have to be completely rebuilt. Relief groups as FEMA and The Red Cross are making good efforts. There are people coming from Louisiana into other states which could cause a problem for those states. Right now the issue is a mess. Comparing issues to hurricane Katrina, which so far is expected to cost $200 billion, the department of education is costing $57.3 billion, homeland security is costing $33.8 billion, hurricane Andrew costing $13.8 billion and the Iraq war sharing the same amount at $200 billion. Currently $62.3 billion has been spent on the hurricane. Where is this being spent? 60 Billion Went to FEMA. $23.2 billion went to individual assistance with home repairs and personal expenses. $7.7 billion had been spent on public assistance issues. $1.6 billion had gone to the aid of trailer and temp housing. $6.5 billion has gone to supplies and inspections. $8 billion has gone to mission assignments. $3 billion has gone to MA overseen engineers. $400 million went to the army corps of engineers who spent it on maintenance and flood control. The department of defense got the last $1.9 billion and is using it for providing helicopters and mobilizing food and water to the people. All the problems discussed are in action of being solved or being pondered. The president is still confused and stressed about what to spend money on.
